A Ukrainian soldier praised Bushmaster armored personnel carriers from Australia in an interview with The Sydney Morning Harald newspaper. The Defenders currently have 19 copies of these vehicles.
Australia transferred 20 Bushmaster APCs to Ukraine, but the Defenders now have 19 after one of the vehicles was lost in a Russian attack.
“It is armored inside, which is a great advantage of this vehicle because it ensures the safety and health of the soldiers inside. “If we had more of these vehicles, we would save more lives, and the lives of our soldiers are most important. important,” said the soldier, alias “Technician,” as quoted by the Sydney Morning Harald. The military urged Australia to provide more Bushmasters to Ukraine. Let’s take a look at the capabilities of these vehicles.
The Bushmaster was developed by Australian Defense Industries (ADI), formerly owned by the Australian government. It is currently produced by Thales Australia in cooperation with Oshkosh Truck. The vehicle is operated by a two-man crew and can carry up to 10 soldiers. According to Technika, it takes the Ukrainians two to three days to take control of the Bushmasters.
The Australian transporters are explosion-proof, and thanks to all-wheel drive they can operate even in the most difficult conditions. The weight of these vehicles is 12 tons and their maximum speed reaches 100 km/h. The Bushmaster’s equipment includes, among others, 5.56mm and 7.62mm machine gun mounts. The vehicle is equipped with a Caterpillar 3126E engine and has a cruising range of 800 km.
Karolina Modzelewska wrote that the vehicle has a V-shaped hull, which “allows the people riding on it to be protected from landmines and other explosive devices.” The transporter was also equipped with an emergency fuel tank.
